The foreman delivers the daily tool box talk from the device, with each worker signing on the handheld demonstrating attendance and acceptance.
Each crew task is broken into sets of questions and responses, including applicable references and pre-populated responses for specific tasks. In addition to the day's work, ad-hoc forms for incident reporting, NCRs, and inspections, to name a few, are on the handheld. Personnel qualifications and permissions as well as complete copies of the latest revision documents, procedures and drawings are available. As tasks are completed, first stage reviews take place and status and exception reporting is triggered.
Managers can monitor the day’s progress from their computer using web-based reports and receive alerts to their pager, Blackberry, or cell phone. Follow-up tasks can be assigned automatically based on today’s activity, prompting follow-up throughout the organization.
